Material Investigations

The PIV Drives material laboratory is equipped with up-to-date instruments and units to analyse and qualify the properties of the purchased materials i. e.: chemical analysis, grain structure, micro- and macroscopically cleaness, check of inner or surface.
By testing technological values as tensile or impact strength, hardness or surface of heat treated parts, effective case-hardness depth, structure or fatigue strength, we can satisfy the customer requirements manufacturing products with optimal material properties and accurate design. In case of malfunctioning in operation, we are able to analyse and evaluate the reasons for crash or other problems and to give the technical assistance to the involved departments.
The traceability of parts or properties, required by standards or customer contracts, is assured by a complete save storaged documentation of all activities and results.

Testfield

PIV Drives has at its disposal extensive and up-to-date testing facilities for the development, quality control and customer acceptance tests of gearboxes and variators.

The testfield consists of 8 test rigs with an testing area of up to 18 m2 per test rig, where power capacities up to 250 kW and torque capacities up to 138 kNm can be tested. For the documentation the testing conditions are recorded with up to date measurement equipment, that allows post processing with PC. The evalution and optimization of the sound characteristics of gearboxes are carried out with a new measuring device that employs the Sound Intensity-(SI-)method and allows measurings in working conditions without special sound chamber.
